One business decision that can really help you grow your career as a Salesfore consultant is deciding to be part of a tribe.

A tribe doesn’t mean contributing to the Trailblazer community, or one of the many Salesforce-oriented Slack workspaces. Those are great, and you should be participating in those forums, but that’s not what a tribe is.

A tribe is a small group of people whom you meet on a regular basis. It could be weekly, monthly, or quarterly. You meet with each one individually, not as a group. Perhaps in person, although most likely virtually.

These individuals are hand-picked by you because they challenge you. They open your mind to new possibilities. They also believe in what you’re trying to accomplish and want to support you. And you with them.

They don’t necessarily need to be in the Salesforce ecosystem, but they should at least understand the landscape. This just allows for better conversations.

And what do you talk about? Client problems, career advancement options, mental blocks, or pretty much any career issue you’re going through. Sometimes, to change things up, I rant about the state of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), because I’m a geek.

The takeaway
A tribe is a close-knit support network. You help each other be better humans. And exposing yourself to outside thinking can really help you be more successful overall.
