There are numerous studies about the benefits of remote work over being full-time in the office. There are also many articles about how hybrid work supersedes fully remote work.

Just to bring everyone up to speed, hybrid work means coming into the office a few days a week, at your own convenience. You decide when you come in, which provides flexibility along with empowerment.

A new concept that is now being floated around is merit-based remote work.

This concept could bridge the gap between employers that want to establish clear metrics for productivity and the sense of control over our own schedules.

It basically rewards your good work with further flexibility. If you’re not meeting your goals, you’re not able to work remotely. On the other hand, if you’re meeting or exceeding expectations, you’re rewarded with greater flexibility

As such, with this approach, you’re incentivized to work hard to gain that autonomy.

Self-motivation and responsibility, two merits that most people can agree are important, unlocks opportunity.

The takeaway
As a community, we are still deciding what work approach works best for us. Employers and employees in a balancing act, trying to determine which direction we should walk towards.

Merit-based hybrid work seems like a good balance, and I’m curious to know whether you agree.
