Being a Salesforce consultant is much more than just having Salesforce knowledge. It’s also a mindset.
There are several aspects of this mindset, so let’s discuss three big ones.
1. Being positive
One mantra that really speaks to me is, “Success is not an absence of problems. It’s an ability to deal with them”. Life, whether it’s personal or professional, will always have challenges.
Keeping a positive attitude through those challenges will ensure you will find a way to deal with them. Hope is precious, and truly believing in yourself and your team will give you the strength to succeed.
2. Being curious
The Dunning-Kruger effect is a cognitive bias where people with limited knowledge actually overestimate their knowledge. If you think you already know it all, then you cannot be curious. If you cannot be curious, you won’t grow as a person.
Luckily there’s always a sense of new-ness in the Salesforce ecosystem. So don’t limit yourself by believing you know enough. The pursuit of knowledge is a lifelong goal.
3. Having a sense of responsibility
Owning your decisions, supporting others junior to you, and admitting mistakes. These are characteristics of someone who takes responsibility. If you’re leading a team and one of your team members faults, shield them from the blame. When they succeed, give them praise.
The takeaway
Your state of mind, how you perceive yourself and your place in the world, has a huge impact on everything. You can alter your perception, you can reframe the situation. Don’t ever underestimate your ability to succeed.
