Unfortunately, far too many people forget an important observation about life.

They believe things happen to them, that perhaps the world is fighting against them, or that successful people are just lucky.

Instead, they would be better off believing they make things happen, the world is fighting for them, or that successful people just work hard.

Things happen in life. These things are not intrinsically positive or negative, they are just things. We humans apply labels to these things, and see them as positive or negative.

The trick is, we can choose how to see them. The same identical situation could happen to two people and one can choose to play the victim while the other can choose to be the victor. Which one would you rather be?

One could call this a type of self-delusion, but I see it much more deeply, powerfully and useful.

In his book “The Sell: The Secrets of Selling Anything to Anyone”, Fredrik Eklund takes it one step further. He actively decides the world is constantly conspiring for him, not against him.

The takeaway
Perception is a choice. If something happens to you and are tempted to label it as negative, choose to reframe the situation.

Choose to see things as if the universe has your best interest at heart and these are teachable moments for you.
