Yesterday, a colleague accidentally factory reset their mobile phone. She was jet lagged and didn’t fully realize what she was doing until it was too late.

As a result, she lost hundreds of notes, contacts, pictures, and other important information. None of this data was being backed up into the cloud.

In addition, using her phone for multi-factor authentication became an issue. So she is locked out of her bank and Salesforce instances.

Apparently my laptop felt sympathetic for her issue today and decided to start failing. In contrast, I barely lost any files, as everything is regularly backed up to the cloud and to a local file backup solution.

I’m currently working on my Chromebook, which is my backup laptop, until the replacement arrives next week.

And if my mobile ever decided to blow up, I wouldn’t lose a single piece of information, as everything is backed up to the cloud.

The takeaway
As a Salesforce consultant, be sure to have a backup plan. Unexpected factory resetting or hardware failure happen. Plan accordingly.
