Deep thinking is about reaching your best thinking performance. But it’s not a race. One way to achieve deep thinking is to actually slow yourself down.
You’ll notice that some of your best thinking sometimes happens when you’re very focused on a problem. But sometimes it happens when you’re at your most relaxed.
To understand why, you need to know there are two parts of your brain. The part that thinks quickly and is reactionary, but is often error prone. And the part that thinks slowly and pragmatically.
To leverage the latter, sometimes you need to distract the former. You need to feed that part something simple and boring, like a routine. Examples are going for a walk, working in a garden, cleaning your home, doing laundry, etc.
In those moments, your slower brain has a chance to shine. It can work on your problem, sometimes without you even realizing it. You just need to slow down and give it space to work.
The takeaway
If you’re unable to solve a problem in Salesforce, take a break. Do a “mindless” activity. This allows the part of your brain that’s really good at problem solving to get to work.
