It’s not uncommon for one of your projects to involve a migration from a legacy system to Salesforce. After all, Salesforce is still the coolest kid on the block.
During the discovery phase of such a project, the client typically demos the legacy system. Note: Some people call this a “reverse demo”, but I just call it a demo.
Workshops are set up to allow this demo, and you get to ask a whole bunch of questions. While there are many technical questions to ask, here are a few non-technical ones consider:
- When was this system last updated?
- Are you actively updating it now?
- Where can I find the documentation?
- Are there any accessibility considerations?
- What are the biggest pain points?
- What are the desired future features?
- What are the KPIs to measure success?
- Tell me about the ideal user experience
- Does data need to be migrated?
- How are users trained on how to use the system?
Asking these questions gives you a more holistic view of the current state. I also find the UX question to be particularly beneficial to the client.
I’m curious to know what questions you ask. Click “Reply” and let me know!
The takeaway
Asking good questions is the key to a good demo. Good questions show the client you’ve done this activity before, and have a vested interest in their success.
