Several months ago, I spoke with the owner of a successful bridal shop. They make custom gowns and are well known in the local community. She’s a very capable person with loads of talent.
I spoke to her about my upcoming travels as a digital nomad: Starting in Montreal, I will visit Poland, Vienna, Madrid, London and Spain before returning to Montreal in the spring (I’m currently writing this email in a small town near Malaga, Spain).
This is the lifestyle I envisioned for myself many years ago, and am now actually living it. I’m not special by any means, I just had a dream and pursued it (It actually took much longer than expected, with multiple failures – but I’ll save that story for another time).
When I told her about these destinations, she sighed and said, “My dream is to travel more too”.
With a shocked look on my face, I asked, “If this is truly your dream, what are you doing about it?!”
Her response was typical, “Well, I have a mortgage, a physical business and a partner that doesn’t like to travel much.”
Sadly, too many people live life in a hamster wheel, not believing the dreams they have can actually come true. Well, I’m living proof this is possible. You “simply” need to decide what you really want and then align your actions with your desires. Everything that’s not aligned is considered noise. This recipe is not magic.
Do you realize that having a career in Salesforce typically means you can be remote full-time?
The takeaway
Building your ideal lifestyle is easier than you think. Whether it’s to travel more or spend more time with family or something completely different. Decide that’s truly important to you, and then start making choices that will keep you in that direction.
If an opportunity (or life partner) presents itself that’s not inline with your dreams, be thankful and wish it well on its way.
