You may not have known this, but I’ve been a podcast host for almost 4 years.

It’s called Agents of Nonprofit and the 1st episode was published on Feb 28, 2022. It was a weekly show where I interviewed everyday “superheroes” in the nonprofit community.

And after 191 episodes, I’ve decided to pause things. There are a few reasons why.

One of the reasons why I started the show was to market myself. I didn’t track how many people listened, as my attention was focused on my guest.

If we had a good interaction, there would be someone new in my area of specialization who knows I work with Salesforce. With some luck, they will think of me when they hear the keywords “Salesforce” and “nonprofit”.

In full transparency, guests generated only 3 Salesforce contracts. That’s hardly a successful outcome. And the operating costs of the show reduced that ROI significantly (there weren’t any corporate sponsors or ads on the show).

Another reason was to keep informed of activities within the nonprofit community and to learn from fellow experts. This was successful, and I’ll definitely miss this part.

Lastly, it was a way to practice speaking and to be a more fluent interviewer. This too was successful.

While 2 out of 3 isn’t too bad, the financial aspect made me pause. Perhaps I restart next year with a seasonal format. We’ll see.

The takeaway
I still believe hosting a podcast is a great way to market yourself. This is especially true if you’re an independent consultant and are building an authority.
