One of the most important elements of being a “good enough” consultant is the ability to aggregate knowledge.

In today’s world of constant breaking news, company newsletters, journey articles, blog posts, press releases, Youtube videos and so on, it’s easy to get overwhelmed. One could literally spend the entire day just consuming information.

And it’s not just public news you need to absorb. It’s also

  • the evergreen skills you bring to the table
  • your industry experience
  • your previous Salesforce experience from other projects
  • your colleagues previous experience
  • the client’s wealth of data
  • the client’s internal communications between colleagues
  • what your client is telling you

Of course, not all of this information and data points is relevant to you, or to your clients.

Therefore one of your main roles as a Salesforce consultant is to split the signal from the noise and provide a digestive summary.

The takeaway
You need to constantly extract meaningful content from various sources of information, and provide a synthesis in a way the client understands. If you can do this well, you’ll be a fountain of valuable and actionable knowledge.
