No, I’m not talking about using your face as a type of authentication to your device.

We all know that watching your client’s face for micro expressions is an important method to provide hints. These hints tell us whether the client is happy or sad or frustrated or anything in between. We often inadvertently mimic these reactions. This means our client’s inner feelings are projected and can be absorbed by us. In short, we feel what they feel.

This is empathy in action.

But did you know, it can work the other way around?

If you are very positive or very negative, you can infect and change your client’s mood! The more often you smile, the more likely your client’s face will pick up on the social cue and reproduce your expression. And the more the client’s smiles, the more likely they will feel good about themselves.

The takeaway
Projecting your feelings and expressions to influence others can seem like a superpower. Use this power for good.
