Salesforce made a huge announcement yesterday regarding the Salesforce Nonprofit Cloud.

Until now, if a nonprofit organization used Salesforce, they typically installed a managed package called Nonprofit Success Pack (NPSP). This is a mature product, evolving for more than a decade.

Additional packages can be added on top of NPSP, including my own tax receipting application.

The core of the announcement yesterday was that instead of being offered as a managed package, NPSP functionality will move to the core Salesforce platform. NPSP is one of the first industries to be moved to the core, and the other industries will follow.

This move allows Salesforce to consolidate data models and functionality. Since there are some features available for one industry that can benefit others, this is a logical strategy.

The implications however, are enormous, and ISVs and consulting agencies are scrambling to obtain as much information as possible.

I’ll share more details in the subsequent email. For now, I’m happy to answer any of your questions by email, or you can join me for a LinkedIn event this Friday. It’s a lunch & learn style audio-only event. I’ll share what I know so far and answer as many of your questions as possible.

The takeaway
The only constant is change. We need to adapt to this news and help our clients get the most of their Salesforce investment. Even if you don’t work in the nonprofit industry, Salesforce’s consolidation strategy will eventually impact you.
