As a Salesforce consultant, trust needs to be part of your DNA. If your client cannot trust you, you’re effectively useless.
So, how can you build trust?
There are several ways, and here’s a REALLY easy one: do what you say you’ll do. Yup, that’s all. You can even decide what you’ll do. Then just say you’ll do it, and do it.
For example, you can give yourself small tasks such as
- replying to an email saying you’re busy at the moment and will provide an elaborate reply later this afternoon, and doing it
- saying you’ll look into a feature of Salesforce and then get back to them with your assessment, and doing it
- inviting your client to a meeting, and showing up on time
These little tasks may seem silly, but they are quite effective in building trust. When you are reliable and predictable, you are trustworthy.
The takeaway
Trust is hard to gain and takes a long time, yet is so easy to lose. Use this hack to gain it quickly, and then keep it up to maintain it.
