I recently read yet another article talking about the impacts of working remotely or hybrid. The summary of this article is: We need to change the way people are managed.

Breaking this down, there are three key points.

1. People are stressed, regardless of where they are physically located. COVID took us all for a wild and unpleasant ride (to say the least), and inflation and the cost of living is now soaring.

2. As a result of stress, more and more people are “quietly quitting”. This means they are sitting in front of their computer and watching the clock tick. Others feel lost or disconnected from the workplace and are looking for a leader or a community to guide them.

3. People are experiencing more anger. One study shows remote workers are experiencing a degree of anger 21% of the day, compared to 13% for hybrid and in-office workers.

The takeaway
More than ever, managers need to understand what motivates their employees. A good salary is great, but isn’t what really keeps people truly happy. Flexibility, recognition, and an inspiring manager are some of the top motivators.
