When nonprofits implement Salesforce projects, both the value and risk are significant. Generally, nonprofits don’t have the same safety net that most for-profit companies have.
This means they generally need to get it right on the first attempt, because there won’t be a second attempt. So, what are some ways a nonprofit can be well setup for success?
One of the best ways is to find someone who’s been through the experience before. An advisor with the wisdom, battle scars, and communication skills to significantly improve the chances of success.
It’s also common for nonprofits to engage with an implementation partner to implement Salesforce projects. A good advisor can also oversee the partner, and basically make sure they do what they are supposed to do, and don’t do what they are not supposed to do.
Further, even with the guidance of a quality implementation partner, nonprofits still have many decisions to make internally and many approaches to consider (e.g. should this be done in Salesforce?) An experienced advisor can help with these.
I’ve partnered with Watt Hamlett of Watt Hamlett Consulting to discuss some of these points. We’ve both served as an experience advisor, and want to share our perspectives on how to successfully implement Salesforce for nonprofits.
