While at DreamOle last week, a term was used that I’ve never heard before. To paraphrase, the person said, “Product owners want AI-first products”.
There are several prominent “first” terms.
For example, the term “mobile-first products” is familiar to most. If not, at a certain moment in the past, there was a big shift to ensure all new websites and applications were responsive.
This means they play nicely on a laptop or regular monitor, as well as on a smaller mobile screen. And testing started on mobiles, followed by desktops.
The term “API-first” is also popular. This means the backend systems were built before a front-end user interface. Stripe is a well-known example.
But what the heck does “AI-first” mean? Perhaps you build an AI agent first, and then a product? Is that even possible? Perhaps the term should be “AI-enabled”?
So many questions.
The takeaway
What do you think when you hear the term “AI-first products”?
