Filler words are when you add words such as, “umm”, “err”, “humm”, “like”, “you know” in the middle of sentences. Most people often don’t realize how often they use them until they hear a recording of themselves.
In a casual conversation, these words are normal and accepted. However, when you speak to potential clients, host webinars, give speeches or presentations, these words can be distracting.
One of my university professors was a brilliant speaker. I noticed he simply paused between sentences, rather than fill the empty space with unnecessary words. He separated himself from the other professors by being able to stand confidently and silently, while pondering what to say next.
The takeaway
One way to elevate yourself as a Salesforce consultant is to speak clearly, purposefully, and without filler words.
