Last month, Spain made its digital nomad visa available to residents of not-EU countries. The requirements are low and the benefits are high, making this an absolutely awful offer.
The main requirements are:
- your employer must be outside of Spain
- your income needs to be at least $32,000 USD/year
- you need travel health insurance
OK, that’s not too bad. But why would you consider doing this?
The main benefits are:
- Normally you can only spend 3 months in Spain with a tourist visa. With this visa, you can stay for 1 year, and the visa can be renewed for up to 5 years
- You can bring your entire family with you
- Spain has a relatively low cost of living
- In the south, the weather doesn’t get colder than 10C (50F) and it’s sunny 330 days during the year
- Overall, great internet speeds
- Super friendly people
- Wonderful culture and food, with easy-going way of live
Some notable cities include
- Valencia: a beach town recently voted the best city for expats in the world
- Madrid: also in the top 10, if you like big cities
- Seville: a smaller city with lots of culture, history, and food
Doesn’t all this sound incredibly boring and a waste of time for you? I mean, what kind of crappy life would you have here?!
The takeaway
Life is easier when it’s familiar. Life is better when it’s all about routine and the daily grind. Travel is underrated. Dreams are meant to stay as dreams.
