There are many ways to introduce calmness in your life. And the calmer you are on the inside, the better consultant you can be on the outside.
One of these effective ways is stoicism.
Stoicism is an ancient Greek philosophy that teaches you to focus on what you can control and accept what you cannot. It also proposes living in accordance with reason and community.
Obviously, the former is easier said than done. But the philosophy has some definite practical uses. In fact, a modern therapeutic approach to dealing with stress is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). And CBT is derived from the principles of stoicism.
The latter is more a way of living. Stoicism postulates that we are capable of reason, something no other animals are capable of to the same level. We are also very social beings, and doing things to help others ultimately benefits ourselves (and vice versa).
Thus stoics say we should apply our reason to the overall betterment of society.
In short, it’s a lovely and practical way to see the world. It might help you manage your stress. It might even give you a sense of purpose.
