When allocating time in your day for deep work, consider which day of the week and which hours.

Studies have shown over and over that most people think best in the morning. This is regardless of whether you’re a morning person or a night person.

And most people consider Friday to be mostly a write off, as it’s too close to the weekend 🙂

So, when you need to concentrate on your Salesforce project, consider blocking off time in your calendar on Mon-Thurs, for an hour or two. If you’re a morning person, perhaps 9am-11am works better for you. If you’re an evening person, perhaps 10am-12pm is more appropriate.

The rest of the time can be allocated to meetings, simple thinking processes, implementation, testing, or whatever is needed from you to successfully complete the project.

Another way to promote deep thinking is to keep a clean desk. If your work area is cluttered, it may impact your thinking process. The cleaner the desk, the more whitespace you allow into your mind.

Also, if you work in an office, realize that not everyone works well in certain spaces. For example, as an introvert that previously worked in an open-office concept, I always needed to use headphones to drown out office chatter. Deep thinking was not possible without them.

The takeaway
The day of the week, your working area, and your office layout all have impacts on your ability for deep work. Pick your positions carefully.
