A large part of being a successful independent Salesforce consultant is your mindset.
If you have a scarcity mindset, you often think about things as being limited. So if someone else has something, then you’re less likely to receive it too. And if they are successful, there’s a chance you won’t be.
This mindset is very negative. It leads you to think about the things you don’t have rather than the things you do. It can cause anxiety, fear, and envy. And this leads to taking fewer chances in life and less likely to pursue your goals.
For example, a friend of mine was telling me he was worried about what his past employers would say about him. He’s in the process of looking for work, and is worried that
- If he lands a job interview
- If the interviewers asks for references
- If he referred his previous boss
- His boss might say negative things about him
- If he referred his previous boss
- If the interviewers asks for references
That’s a really deeply nested if, with such a pessimistic perspective!
The opposite of the scarcity mindset is the abundant mindset. This mindset believes there’s more than enough for everyone. If someone takes a piece of the pie, there aren’t fewer pieces for everyone else. Instead, the pie just gets bigger.
The takeaway
Changing your mindset from scarcity to abundant is challenging. The good news is definitely possible. And with an abundant mindset, you can accomplish everything!
