In the nonprofit industry, the following record types exist for opportunity:
- Donation
- Grant
- In-Kind Gift
- Matching Gift
- Major Gift
- Membership
And it’s not uncommon for clients to add several more.
In general, record types are used less these days due to the rise of the dynamic functionality of Lightning Record Pages. But sometimes it’s still useful to stick with simple page layouts.
In this scenario, it’s common to have a 1:1 relationship between record type and page layouts.
But looking at the record types above, you’ll notice that In-Kind Gift, Matching Gift, and Major Gift are all just types of donations. So you could have 4 record types use a single page layout.
This approach makes simplifies modifications, as you only need to change a few layouts instead of many.
