Several months ago, there was a wave of articles talking about “stealth workers”. These are individuals who pretend to be working from home, when in fact they are remote.

Tactics they employ include:

  • using a VPN (e.g. to mask their geolocation)
  • wearing climate appropriate clothing (e.g. sweaters while in a hot region)
  • signing-in at odd local hours (e.g. to seem like they are in the same time zone)
  • flat out lying about where they are

While these are deceitful and dishonest, the fact that some people are doing them proves something.

There are multiple statistics that prove working remotely doesn’t significantly reduce efficiency. In some cases, it actually improves it. However, these proofs don’t seem to be swaying upper management, as there have been more and more calls to force people back into a crowded office.

And while there are many jobs that require you to be on-site, for the most part, being a Salesforce consultant isn’t one of them.

If you are considering working remotely as a digital nomad, be honest with your intentions. Share these intentions with your boss and/or clients and get their buy-in before making a move.

The takeaway
Don’t be a stealth worker. Digital nomads are honest about what they do and where they are. Being truthful provides peace of mind, allowing you to truly enrich yourself in the moment, wherever in the world that may be.
