As a Salesforce consultant, you have a stressful position. Taking breaks every once in a while, just like I did for the last two weeks, is vital for your health and sanity.
However, even while on holiday, I rarely just sit on the couch and vegetate.
Sure, I’ll do that for a day or two (or three), but after that, it’s time for something more beneficial.
The key is: vacation allows you to stop thinking about your Salesforce projects and your day-to-day responsibilities. It allows you to take a step back and look at the bigger picture of your life.
Here are three recommended activities to do during any holiday:
1. Do a systems check
On your computer, every once in a while it’s important to run a virus scan, update your apps, and defrag your hard drive (although we don’t really defrag anymore).
For you, this means asking yourself if you’re still happy with your life and lifestyle, looking at any of your pain points, and then outlining steps to alleviate them.
2. Double-check your plan
Hopefully you already have a vision about where you want to be in several years. If not, breaks provide you the time to set some goals. This is high-level thinking, just to figure out in which direction you want to continue walking.
Mike Tyson once said, “Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth”. With all due respect, you need to have some kind of plan so you know where you’re going. The execution of that plan will change along the way, but you at least you’ll know whether you’re heading east or west.
3. Express your gratitude
This one simple action can really increase your happiness level. Ideally it should be done daily, but you really have no excuse during longer breaks.
All you need to do is think or write down a few reasons why you’re happy with what you currently have.
The takeaway
By doing these three activities, you’ll be ready to jump back into your Salesforce projects with a refreshed mindset, knowing this is the life you’ve actively chosen, and is where your north star.
