Based on the previous emails, you can see that value-based pricing (VBP) is quite different from regular time & material (T&M) projects.
Many of you will probably be shocked by the concept. Your initial reaction might be to not believe it’s actually feasible.
Heck, the first time I learned about it, I went through the following reactions:
- “Not charging by the hour? That’s crazy talk.”
- “Getting paid 100% upfront? Never gunna happen.”
- “Being paid for your expertise, not your time? That may work for others, but I don’t think that would work for me.”
After doing fixed and VBP for more than a year and half, I can definitely tell you this will work for you as a Salesforce consultant or small agency.

The takeaway
Does working less and making more sound good to you? How about taking vacations without considering potential lost income? Or not doing any more timesheets? This is possible with fixed pricing and value-based projects.
