When I started writing these emails, about 2.5 years ago, I was inspired by my business coach. He’s been writing 7 emails a week for years, and I figured if he can do it, so can I.

For me however, 7 is too much, as I appreciate having some down time. But we share the principle of writing virtually every day to help crystalize ideas.

The only times I don’t write is

  • 1 week during the winter holidays, to focus on family and friends
  • 1 week during the summer at the cottage, and part of a digital detox

Sometimes I extended these breaks by a week, to really give myself the chance to recharge.

Overall these days, I’m more lenient with myself. I believe it’s OK to take a random week off for personal reasons. Whether it be a very business schedule, a need to realign, or a lack of motivation, breaks are important.

Last week I was sick with gastro and flew back to Canada, after spending the winter in Spain. Between the two, there were so many things to do that IĀ  decide to pushe aside these emails.

And I’m really glad I did.

The takeaway
In life, consistency is important. As Woody Allen said, “90% of life is just showing up”. 90% of 52 is 47, which is 5 weeks of breaks per year. So I’m still good šŸ™‚
