It’s been a while since I spoke about remote work. Since it’s Friday, here we go.
Apparently there’s a new type of remote work that’s gaining popularity. It’s the type in which you commute to the office and work from there, but some or most of your colleagues are remote.
So you continue to use Zoom and other remote applications, but you’re working from the office instead of from home.
Of course, this way of working is absurd.
It combines the struggle and lost time commuting with none of the advantages. You cannot socialize, or brainstorm as a group, as your coworkers are in another city or country.
The only upside I see is that your Zoom background changes.
To date, the best working methodology is a hybrid approach: your team works from home on some agreed-upon days, and works from the office on others.
This provides a good mix of socialization and autonomy.
