Last year, a Salesforce agency was struggling with their developers. The devs were attempting to tackle a project that was beyond their knowledge. In addition, they needed advice on how to approach certain technical situations.
I was engaged to help. A monthly subscription-style service was proposed, as it provided flexibility to the agency to decide the duration of the engagement.
The proposal mentioned scope that was included, such as
- Meet with the devs as a group on a weekly basis, in an “office hours” fashion
- Meet with them individually for more personalized advising, as needed
- Share development best practices and patterns
As well as scope that wasn’t included
- Write production-ready code
- Fill-out timesheets
- Attend standups
I didn’t track my hours, but a rough calculation showed my effective hourly rate was about $5000 USD / hour. The engagement lasted 4 months.
The takeaway
The client was happy with the outcome because their developers had direct contact to a Salesforce expert. Their team also showed noticeable improvements and their project was successful.
I was happy because the client was happy and because this situation showed the power of value-based pricing.
