As a Salesforce consultant, how should you spend your time when you don’t have much work to do?
This is a common question that is becoming more and more relevant as work is harder and harder to find. Whether you’re a full-time employee of a consulting agency or an independent contractor, the answer is mostly the same.
Instead of just sitting back and waiting for something to drop into your lap, there are several ways to invest your time:
1. Get more certifications
While certs don’t hold as much value as they once did, there are still some benefits. Why not take advantage of quieter moments to grab the certs that are aligned with your career path.
2. Learn a new topic
Instead of aiming for a cert, you can simply improve your knowledge in a new domain. For example, if you don’t know much about AI, now’s a good time to bring yourself up to speed. The aim is not to be an expert. Aim for proficiency.
3. Travel
People often complain they don’t have enough time to visit the world. Well, what better time to travel than when you have plenty of free time? Although your budget may not be huge, there are many places in the world that don’t require tons of cash. Travel opens your mind and rejuvenates your soul.
The takeaway
Just because you’re not actively working on projects doesn’t mean it’s time to sit back and do nothing. Take advantage of the opportunity and invest in yourself.
I’m curious, how do you spend your downtime?
