Salesforce is awesome. It offers so much power and so much potential. But it’s not perfect. Far from it, actually.
Knowing the quirks in the system can really amplify your skill as a Salesforce consultant. The question shouldn’t be, “why doesn’t Salesforce do what we want?”, but more, “how do we work around this limitation?”
There are many sources where you can find these limitations and their workarounds. Here are a few popular choices:
- Trailhead
- Salesforce Documentation
- Trailblazer Communities
- Salesforce Known Issues
- Salesforce User Groups
- Slack workspaces
The more spaces you join, the better armed you will be. However, it may be hard to digest all of this information, so keep in mind you can join them and then archive or disable notifications. Whenever you hit a Salesforce limitation, you can search through the archive to see if someone has a viable workaround.
If you haven’t already joined, I recommend the Slack workspace called OhanaSlack. It’s an active community of more than 11,000 users. There are dozens of specific channels and people are willing to lend you a hand.
The takeaway
In addition to being a platform, Salesforce is a community. Contribute to that community and reap the rewards of fellow consultants solving the same problems you have.
