I’ve previously talked about how, as a Salesforce consultant, it sometimes feels like we are a janitor or a firefighter.

Other days, we can feel like a pirate.

A pirate is someone who doesn’t get seasick while navigating troubled waters. The Salesforce ecosystem is anything but stable, and successfully delivering projects can sometimes feel like we’re in the middle of an ocean storm. Being able to stay cool and collected during these turbulent times is an important skill.

A pirate is someone that is strategic and understands navigation. Sometimes we need to come up with an out-of-the-box solution to a problem that doesn’t already fit nicely in Salesforce. We may need to get creative in our decision making. And the outcomes of these decisions can have long lasting impacts.

A pirate is someone that collects treasure. As a Salesforce consultant, our knowledge is our treasure. The more treasure you collect through training and doing projects, the better consultant you become. Unlike pirates however, we share that treasure with our clients.

The takeaway
Whether you’re a corsair, buccaneer, or privateer type of pirate, it’s fun and playful to occasionally assume this role. Be the best pirate you can be. Just don’t drink rhum on the job 🙂
