Let’s say you’ve verbally proposed a monthly support engagement to your Salesforce client. What does the written proposal look like?
To help answer this, here’s an excerpt from my 5 page proposal template:
Project Options
In the following pages, I have outlined three options of increasing complexity for the project. The options are incremental, allowing you to choose the level that fits your needs and budget.
Option 1: Salesforce Administration
This option includes administrative support on the Salesforce platform. This is a limited hands-on role, serving the basic needs of your organization.
Sample topics that fall under this option include:
- Answering all your questions regarding Salesforce
- Providing recommendations for apps
- Creating reports and dashboards
- Creating and managing automations
- Training personnel on how leverage Salesforce
Option 2: Functional Advisor
This option includes everything from option 1 and extends my role into a functional advisor. This means I am involved with both design and configuration aspects, including integrations.
Sample topics that fall under this option include:
- Providing guidance on design and implementation practices
- Providing recommendations for integrations to and from Salesforce
- Creating best practices and recommendations for data architecture, data modeling, user profiles, permissions and security
- Providing insights into sandbox maintenance, change management and data migrations
Option 3: Technical and UX Advisor
This option includes everything from options 1 and 2, but extends my involvement to more technical aspects of the project, as well as user experience (UX).
Sample topics that fall under this option include:
- On-going technical reviews of automation, apex code, APIs, integrations, and documentation. Note: authoring of production-ready code is not in scope
- Analyzing technical debt, including Salesforce automation and code, along with integrations, and providing a roadmap to reduce debt
- Making recommendations and implementing improvements of the overall user experience for desktop and mobile
The takeaway
You’ll notice that not many details are mentioned. Instead each option has general topics. This allows you to be slightly flexible in your day-to-day operations.
