I’ve been at a client’s location for a handful of days this week. It’s great to see so many people in-person and in 3D, rather than the 2D we see through Zoom.

Last night, once all the productive working sessions were done, and the office small-talk ended, a few of us headed out for dinner.

During the meal, the conversation fully turned away from business and went deep. Really deep.

Here are a few of the questions asked to the table:

  • How do you know when to give up something? (in a general sense)
  • If you could have lunch with anyone, living or dead, who would it be?
  • As we all have biases, to whom are you prejudiced against? (any group of people)
  • Do you fear death, and why or why not?

As a Salesforce consultant, I felt there always needs to be a line between being professional and sharing my innermost thoughts. It’s a series of layers, like an onion. The deeper the layer, the more personal.

My question to you is, how do you know when to stop peeling back the layers?

The takeaway
I’ve noticed that as I grow older, the more I expose the deeper layers. The connective tissue with gain by sharing these layers really helps build stronger teams.
