As a Salesforce consultant, it’s easy to get distracted while working. It could be a text message, an email alert, a meeting reminder, a colleague tapping your shoulder, or a myriad of other annoyances.
All these interruptions prevent you from being able to achieve deep work.
So what exactly is deep work and why do you want to achieve it?
It’s a state of peak concentration that allows you to learn challenging items and design high-quality results. It’s a state of distraction-free concentration when your brain works at its maximum potential.
So while we don’t need deep work to do most things, like answer those emails and your colleague’s questions, we do need it for more thoughtful work.
And each interruption costs you twice. Not just the time of the actual interruption, but also up to 20 minutes after as well.
To help encourage more deep work:
- When you need to focus, consider turning off all computer and phone notifications
- Allocate time during the week that is dedicated to deep work
- Prioritize high priority tasks
The takeaway
To maximize your creative potential, try to achieve deep work often. It also feels good, leading to being energized and empowered.
