As a single-person business that offers both products and services, I simply don’t have time to do it all myself.
Here are the people I depend on:
App development
There’s a small team that helps me with the SF application. This includes two SF devs, an AWS dev, a QA tester, and a part-time marketing person. They are subcontractors, so I don’t need to continuously supply with work.
Podcast
For the podcast, I have a virtual assistant in which I drop the recording into a Google Drive folder, and he edits it, creates show notes and a title, then schedules the episode for publishing. This allows me to focus on finding guests, researching the topic, and then hosting the conversation.
Technically, I could do most of their jobs. Well, except for the SF dev, as he’s REALLY good and makes my humble code look like a baby wrote it.
I might even do a better job than some of them. But that’s not an efficient use of my time. Instead, I ask myself, “can someone else do this task, at least 80% as well as I can?”. If the answer is “yes”, I delegate it.
The takeaway
I constantly look for ways to delegate work. Whether it’s to another human or an AI, I’d rather focus on my time and energy on only things I can do. This allows me to get stuff done.
