A friend came over today and we chatted about his Salesforce career.
His main issue was he feels that Sales Cloud consultants have become a commodity. This means it’s become so ubiquitous that nearly everyone can do it.
This issue probably started a few years ago, when there was a big rise in people starting their Salesforce career. And for most of them, Sales Cloud was their entry point.
So now my friend feels like he’s one of many, a tear lost in the middle of the ocean.
He also acknowledged that because I specialized in nonprofits, I am more resistant to this issue. I agreed.
Having a niche or specialization allows you to more easily distinguish yourself from others. It’s a chance to plant your flag in your favourite spot and claim you own this.
The takeaway
You cannot solve everyone’s problems. So consider picking your preferred market and become a bigger fish in a smaller pond.
