Once you start protecting your mind from the wealth of information available, consider your client’s mind.

One of the most important roles as a Salesforce consultant is to absorb massive amounts of information and then distill it for your clients.

This means:

1. Rephrasing things in a way your client will understand. My favorite interview question was, “Explain what you do to a 5 year old”.

If the candidate struggles with this question, I know they don’t have strong communication skills and empathy.

2. Understanding that sometimes you need to guide them towards a decision. They may have some preconceived notions about how to implement Salesforce. But you are the expert.

Don’t let them dictate the design or even the configuration. That’s your job.

So leverage all your knowledge in a way that results in the client achieving their goals, while making sure they understand why you’ve made your decisions.

The takeaway
Take the mental burden away from your client by speaking their language and reducing large amounts of information to their most valuable points.
