One of the best routines I’ve adopted in recent years is meditation. It’s now a regular part of my morning routine.
The routine begins with waking up and is followed by
- Trying not to look at my phone just yet (it’s hard since I need to turn off the alarm. Perhaps I should buy an old-school alarm clock to help)
- Two minute bio activity
- Wear yesterday’s around-the-house clothes
- Drink a full glass of water
- Sit in the bean bag and meditate for 20 to 25 minutes
- Prepare breakfast (I eat the same thing everyday to avoid having to make a decision)
- While eating, look at my phone (for the 1st time!), and catch up on the news and what my European subcontractors are up to
- Another full glass of water
- Shower
- Put on clean and comfortable clothes
- Start work
I’ve been meditating for a year and a half, and it really helps start the day. There’s also an email from a while back about the benefits of meditation and I’ve experienced most of them.
Just like going to the gym, you cannot meditate once and expect results. You have to constantly show up and do it. And over time, you’ll become a better, more mindful version of yourself.
The takeaway
There are some tangible benefits to meditation and I’m enthralled to have added it to my routine.
