Last week was dreamOle in Valencia, Spain. I don’t have as many contacts in Europe as in North America, but it was good to start seeing some familiar faces.

Here are three takeaways from the event:

1. Security is top of mind.
There were several sessions about Salesforce security. Most organizations ignore this risk until they appear in the news (and not in a good way).

Performing a security risk assessment is something that should be on your yearly calendar.

2. Connected Apps are out.
As part of the security enhancements, using Connected Apps (ECs) to connect to external applications is being deprecated. As of today, you cannot create any new ECs, and some authorities predict they will no longer work within 1-2 Salesforce releases.

External Client Apps (ECAs) is their replacement. Migration from CAs to ECAs isn’t overly complicated, and you should be looking to perform the swap ASAP.

3. Salesforce as a true platform.
This will be officially announced at TDX this year, but soon Salesforce will allow you to build ANY app on their platform.

This means having to use lightning web components (LWC) or an iframe, you can use javascript frameworks such as node.js. A Software Development Kit (SDK) will be available to allow your custom app to access Salesforce data.

The takeaway
Meeting the Salesforce community in person is wonderful. Plus you get to learn lots of cool new things.
